More than 100 quarantined students and staff from St Francis Xavier College will return to school on Thursday after two weeks of isolation.
A year 11 SFX student tested positive to the coronavirus a fortnight ago, resulting in 120 of his close contacts going into quarantine and the school closing for two days.
The teenager's younger brother had also tested positive, leading to a similar shutdown at St Pius X at Adamstown and 140 close contacts entering self-isolation.
Neither case, nor their 20-year-old brother, who also tested positive after visiting several Newcastle nightspots, appears to have passed on the virus to anyone else, including their parents.
Hunter New England Health reported no new cases on Wednesday as NSW recorded seven positive tests in the 24 hours to 8pm Tuesday.
SFX principal Greg Ptolemy wrote to parents on Wednesday expressing his delight at the imminent return of the students and staff.
"To the relief of many, at midnight this evening our students and staff in this scenario will complete their isolation and resume regular activities," he said.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of these people for following the advice of NSW Health so diligently in order to protect the wider community.
"Thankfully, since the initial confirmed case, there have been no further cases in the region despite a significant increase in testing numbers."
