No new cases in Townsville and Palm Island

People across Queensland are being urged to get tested for COVID-19 if they experience any symptoms. (AAP)

Queensland's far north is in the clear from COVID-19 for now after no new community cases were recorded in the Townsville and Palm Island communities.

An aviation worker linked to an existing cluster in southeast Queensland travelled to Townsville and tested positive on Wednesday evening, prompting warnings around 27 exposure sites, 12 of which are close contact.

No further exposure sites have been listed since Queensland Health updated close and casual contact venues late on Wednesday.

The man was staying at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in the city centre after attending a meeting at an aviation facility on September 20.

Five of Thursday's Queensland cases were colleagues of a Brisbane aviation worker who tested positive earlier in the week, the Townsville case among them.

The man presented for testing after suffering minor viral symptoms.

Townsville University Hospital acting chief health officer Niall Small says testing rates have been good but the region is not out of the woods just yet.

"We need people to keep coming forward to be tested if they identify themselves as being a close or casual contact based on information on the website, or if they feel unwell with any symptoms that could be COVID please come forward and get tested," he said.

The number of people in home isolation could not be confirmed but Dr Small was satisfied with the uptake and compliance with health directives.

Across the state, 19,764 tests were recorded on Thursday as Queensland comes to grips with an outbreak that has grown to 12 cases this week.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the statewide response is pleasing but urged Queenslanders to continue to get tested.

"That gives us an added layer of confidence at this stage, but we do want to see continual high rates of testing to make sure we do not have any community transmission," she said.

Stage-two restrictions are in place across Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay, Gold Coast, Townsville and Palm Island, with residents required to wear a mask when leaving home, and caps on weddings, funerals and hospitality.

"We need to make sure that people in Brisbane, Logan, Gold Coast, Moreton Bay, Townsville, Palm Island continue to adhere to those stage-two restrictions," the premier said.

"We need people to keep getting tested. We need people to keep wearing a mask. And we need people to use the check-in app."

Queensland recorded two new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
