‘No murders this week for the first time in memory’: Trump claims victory over DC crime, instantly proven wrong

Donald Trump is feebly trying to claim his strongman military takeover of Washington DC as a huge victory. His position is that he’s the noble hero who’s ridden into town surrounded by a phalanx of National Guard troops, ready to bring order to this lawless hellhole.

It’s safe to say the actual DC residents see things differently. The majority of residents say they’re happy with their police force as crime has been falling for years, with a stunning 79% of them opposing the takeover and 61% saying they now feel less safe after Trump’s troops rolled into town.

But Trump is happily painting himself as a real-life Batman, crowing on TruthSocial that the city is “SAFE AGAIN!” and boasting, “As bad as it sounds, there were no murders last week for the first time in memory”.

In memory, huh? So, when exactly was the last time DC had a week without any homicides? For that, we’ll have to crack open the dusty history books and peel back the pages to the lifetime ago that was… March 2025. Maybe Trump meant this was the first time in his addled goldfish memory that this has happened?

Civil War part II?

To be fair, I fully believe Trump believes he’s telling the truth here. Doubtless, some toadying aide eager to massage his ego has fed him this lie, and he’s dutifully regurgitated it. And, on the scale of Trump lies, this is pretty far down the scale.

But though DC residents are up in arms about their city being seized by Trump, it doesn’t look like there’s much they can do about it. Judicial intervention doesn’t seem to work, as even if a judge orders Trump to retreat, he simply attacks the judge as biased and ignores the order.

Don. Jr is now threatening similar military action against Portland and Seattle, describing these liberal strongholds as “craphole cities” that deserve to be beaten down by Trump’s troops. Who knows what’s going to happen there, but all this is getting alarmingly dystopian alarmingly fast.

It’s sensationalist to say that the United States looks like it’s heading for civil war, but with the president invading and controlling cities against the people’s will, what other path could the United States be on?
