T’PURAM: KPCC president K Sudhakaran said that ‘sir’ and ‘madam’ salutations will be a thing of the past in Congress-ruled local bodies of the state. He also urged chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan to implement this change in all government offices and the police.
Recently, Mathur grama panchayat in Palakkad banned the use of ‘sir or madam’ to address panchayat members or its office staff. Also, in letters addressed to the panchayat, words like requesting, appealing should not be used in future. This was done to bridge the gap between people and their representatives.
Now, Sudhakaran has asked all local bodies ruled by Congress to emulate this model. “The time has come to implement the same everywhere. Hence, Congress will fight to implement this change everywhere. For this necessary directives have been given to all district congress committee presidents,” he said.
When the police force is bringing shame to the state through the arrogant behaviour of its personnel towards women and children, Mathur panchayat came out with an extremely-welcome gesture, he added.
This should be seen as a new step towards change and hence the chief minister should take up the initiative and bring about a change in all government departments and offices. This would bring people more close to the administrators and create a sense of belonging.
