No more Macc: Jets fire Mike Maccagnan, make Adam Gase interim GM

The Jets have fired GM Mike Maccagnan, the team announced Wednesday morning. In addition, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that New York fired vice president of player personnel Brian Heimerdinger.

Maccagnan had two years left on his contract, but the Jets have moved on after rumors of internal strife between him and new head coach Adam Gase surfaced throughout the offseason. Gase, who denied those rumors, and the desire to have personnel control the way he did in Miami, will serve as the interim general manager while Jets CEO Christopher Johnson searches for a long-term replacement.

Maccagnan and Heimerdinger are largely responsible for assembling a roster that has the Jets in position to contend in 2019, but that wasn’t enough to keep them around. Instead, New York is moving in a direction that appears incredibly favorable to Gase.
