No minutes but still 'sensational': How Man City youngster Tommy Doyle is impressing on loan

Hamburg manager Tim Walter has played down fears over the lack of minutes for Manchester City loanee Tommy Doyle.

The City youngster moved to the German club on a temporary basis this summer, having been on the fringes of the first team at the Etihad Stadium.

While it was anticipated that Doyle would get plenty of minutes in the 2. Bundesliga, as of yet he's not featured for his new club, who sit in sixth in German football's second tier.

However, Walter has insisted that Doyle requires time to settle in and believes his talent will eventually see him break into the team.

"His feet are sensational," he told Hamburger Morgenpost (via Sport Witness ). "Tommy is in the observation role and tries to implement things in training.

"New country, new language – all that is not easy for him. He will need another week or two to settle in."

Doyle is believed to be highly rated at the Etihad Stadium, although the midfielder is obviously way down the pecking order given the plethora of options available to manager Pep Guardiola in this area of the pitch.

The 19-year-old has made seven appearances for City in all competitions; just one of those has come in the Premier League.

Doyle has been capped by England at Under-21 level and a year ago he agreed a new contract with City, keeping him at the club until 2025.

The youngster has strong City roots in his family. Doyle's paternal grandfather Mike Doyle made 570 appearances for the club and his maternal grandfather Glyn Pardoe remains the youngest player to ever make a senior appearance for City, aged just 15 years and 341 days old.
