No McDonald's drive-thrus reopening in Notts today - and this is why

Fast food giant McDonald's is reopening 39 drive-thrus today across the country - but Big Mac fans in Notts will have to be patient.

None of the drive-thrus in Notts are among the locations revealed this morning.

The sites include six in Peterborough, three in Ipswich, and three in Chelmsford but none locally.

McDonald's said: "These drive-thru pilot restaurants were all chosen as they are close to one of our distribution centres as we continue to prepare our supply chain for reopening."

Today's announcement follows a delivery-only pilot scheme at 15 restaurants in the south east of England, running since May 13

New restrictions are in place. Fewer employees will be working on each shift to ensure staff safety, with new social distancing rules in place.

A reduced menu will be served over reduced hours, from 11am to 10pm.

Contactless payment will be encouraged with a maximum spend of £25.

The chain tweeted: "With fewer people in our kitchens there may be longer wait times, so we ask that you kindly bear with us during our pilot.

The company aims to have all drive-thrus open again by early June.

Burger King, KFC and Subway have all reopened some of their branches across Notts. Yesterday Five Guys, near Showcase Cinema, announced it was returning to business.
