Japanese airline All Nippon Airways Co., in a statement made Thursday, announced that domestic flights in June will be cut by roughly 70% from its initial schedule. As the central government has gradually lifted the state of emergency in response to the spread of the novel coronavirus, the number of new domestic flight reservations has been increasing, causing the reduction rate to be lowered from May's 85%.

The number of round-trip flights between Haneda and Itami will see a reduction from the originally planned 15 per day to around 6 - 8 in June -- an increase from the 2 in May. Additionally, some routes, including those between Haneda and Kumamoto, which had been suspended throughout May, will be reopened in June.

Skymark Airlines Inc. also decided on Thursday to reduce its number of domestic flights between June 1 and 11, by about 81% from the roughly 86% in May.

ANA also issued a request on its website on Thursday, urging passengers to wear masks while in airports and on planes. Passengers who fail to do so may be refused to board.
