'No mask, no ride' - Uber makes face masks 'mandatory' for all passengers and drivers

From next week, you will no longer be able to hop in an Uber unless you're wearing a face mask.

The ride-hailing company is making face coverings mandatory for drivers and passengers from Monday 15 June.

In an email to customers, Uber say the policy is being introduced to "protect the health and safety of you and your driver".

If you aren't wearing a face mask when your driver arrives to pick you up, they have the right to cancel your trip.

What's more is you can be prevented from using the app if you repeatedly flag Ubers when you're not wearing a mask.

Similarly, customers are also allowed to cancel a ride if the driver arrives with no face covering.

Lothian Buses have also asked passengers to wear face coverings on their services to reduce the risk of contracting the potentially deadly virus while onboard.

It comes after the Scottish Government urged people to wear a face covering when using public transport and in shops.
