No Man’s Sky gets literal Pokémon mode in ‘Xeno Arena’ update

No Man's Sky continues down the path of free updates, this time by adding in what is literally Pokemon to the game. Xeno Arena, as the update is titled, will introduce battlegrounds where players can bring their trained aliens and pit them against each other, likely to prove who's the best trainer in the universe.

As announced by Hello Games' Sean Murray, the Xeno Arena patch will introduce creature battling, training, breeding, genetic experiments, challenges, missions, and everything in between. With over 100 abilities, the creatures can duke it out in various arenas, with players earning titles, medals, and ranks through engaging in these multiplayer fights.

It also seems creatures as a whole are getting a massive update, as the trailer shows a player riding what appears to be a giant alien beetle, meaning you get a lot more control over creatures outside of just capturing, breeding, and experimenting on them for your entertainment.

No Man's Sky remains probably the best space exploration game ever made, despite its horrible launch. Now, as every part of its mysterious and strange universe has been addressed, the time has come to spice up creatures as well. Algorithm updates made more interesting creatures spawn across planets more often, but this definitely takes the cake as the best creature update the game has ever seen.

Players now have actual reasons to go out and find the most interesting, powerful, and effective pets they can, which they will then subject to experiments to make them into actual supersoldiers, because that is just part of human nature at this point it seems.

You can see the full extent of the update at this link, or just go into the game and experience it for yourself, as it's already out.
