No Lowland League with Kevin Harper at the wheel says Albion Rovers supremo

Albion Rovers chairman Eddie Hagerty says there is no way the club will end up in the Lowland League under manager Kevin Harper.

The Cliftonhill supremo believes there is no chance there will be a repeat of the battle to stay away from the relegation play-off spot after the great escape last term.

With the countdown to the league campaign on ahead of the Betfred Cup clash with East Kilbride, he was confident about the upcoming campaign.

“Kevin has had great success here,” Hagerty told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser.

“He has managed to get the shape of a team together and everyone knows their roles.

“Along with Joe (McLaughlin) they have brought real professionalism to the club.

“With the squad Kevin has built here I don’t think any team in League Two should give us any fear.

“When you look at teams in this league like Cove Rangers, they have just brought in Paul Hartley. They must have tremendous resources to be able to bring in that kind of manager.

“Here the players have bought into what Kevin wants to do at Albion Rovers.

“Between the sport scientists, the players, the staff, there is a real ethos at the club.

Chairman Eddie Hagerty (Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser)

“I have spoken about it with Kevin but we believe the great escape last season was only the start of our journey.

“We have spent within our means, which has been the downfall of the club, and Kevin has been a really important figure in that.”

He added: “We don’t know where we will end up next season. There is a plan in place for the next two or three years.

“We just know that we won’t be in the Lowland League, that’s for sure.”

Harper continues to be , and Hagerty admits that there will “always be a concern” that if his manager is successful he will be poached by another club.

However, he saw the gaffer as a huge part of the planned Rovers revival in League Two next term.

“This is only the beginning for Albion Rovers,” he continued.

“There is a plan in place for the next couple of seasons.

“We will be holding an open meeting with the fans, with shareholders and directors, so everyone can say their tuppence worth.

“We want there to be a lot of participation in the future of Albion Rovers and Kevin’s success on the park will be a big part of that.”
