CBS Sports released its annual “Top 25 NFL players under age 25” list. Unfortunately for Lions fans. there are no Detroit players to be found on Sean Wagner-McGough’s edition for this season.
It’s the second year in a row the Lions have been shut out of the compilation.
Wagner-McGough listed his primary selection criteria:
- What the player has accomplished thus far. No rookies were eligible.
- Future projection. How much upside is there and how likely are they to attain it?
- Positional value. Premium positions matter more.
It makes some sense for the Lions to miss out. The team’s top talents, from Darius Slay to Damon Harrison, Quandre Diggs to Tre Flowers, are all at least 25 years old. Kenny Golladay and Taylor Decker are both ineligible for being 25 already, too.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes tops the list, followed by Chargers edge rusher Joey Bosa, Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett, Texans QB Deshaun Watson and Browns QB Baker Mayfield.
