BHOPAL: Educational institutes seem to be not paying heed to Covid-appropriate behaviour with students and teaching faculty flouting Covid protocol including masks and social distancing despite the fear of third wave still looming.
From universities to colleges, masks have completely gone for a toss. “This is a very crucial time for everyone but it is shocking that no one is following the norms. Even PM Narendra Modi has said that the people should be cautious,” said a senior teaching faculty at BU.
Students said that they have been vaccinated and do not need masks any more. “Students are allowed in class only after they submit vac certificates. Therefore, I do not find any reasons for wearing masks,” said a student, Pritesh Narang. Students said that wearing masks is no more than a formality in the class. “You can visit any class on any given day to find out the situation of wearing masks. No one is following norms. Even college authorities have not made any arrangements for thermal scanning at the entrance. So, it is unfair to expect the students to follow norms,” said another student Param Vaid.
Even teaching faculty were seen without masks on the college campuses. “While taking classes several times students are not able to understand the words due to mask. Therefore, I have not put on masks during the class academics,” said a senior professor.
Meanwhile, students hailed the decision of colleges making vaccination certificates mandatory to enter the campus. “It is a good initiative. Even those students who were avoiding vaccination will also have to take it,” said a student Anant Shastri.
