HARTFORD, Conn. _ One of Fairfield's most famous residents, insult-comic-turned-life-coach Lisa Lampanelli, has fallen victim to an imposter, and the comedian didn't find it funny.
A Pennsylvania woman posed as Lampanelli and tried to get into her beach-side house while Lampanelli was out of state, police said Tuesday.
Anna Dominguez, 56, of Lancaster, Pa., was arrested Friday and charged with criminal attempt to commit third-degree burglary. She is due in Superior Court in Bridgeport Oct. 15, police said.
According to police, Dominguez called Lampanelli's sister Friday and said, "It's me, Lisa." She then asked where the key to the front door was hidden. Lampanelli's sister asked who this was on the phone and Dominguez hung up.
Officers went to the home and there were no signs of a burglar nor that anyone had tried to break in, police said.
Lampanelli then sent police surveillance video of an unknown blonde-haired woman at the front door. The woman had looked under the door mat in what appeared to be a search for a key about 5:20 p.m. A frame grab of the video was distributed to officers.
About 9:45 p.m., an officer noticed a gray Volkswagen Passat in the driveway of Lampanelli's home. He ran the license plate and it came back to Anna Dominguez. Police called Lampanelli and "Lisa stated she has never met anyone named Anna Dominguez and that person has no business being at her home," Capt. Robert Kalamaras said.
Officers came to the home and searched for Dominguez both inside and outside of the house, and couldn't find her. They also tried calling her, but the number went straight to voicemail, Kalamaras said.
When the tow truck arrived to remove the car, police noticed a woman matching Dominguez's description was now in the front seat, he said.
She told officers that she is suffering from dementia and "it is hard for her to let go of her famous life," Kalamaras said.
