No jail time for military veteran who posted revenge porn of ex-wife

The man told the court he was grateful for the help he had received.

A West Australian man who posted sexually explicit photos of his ex-wife on social media has avoided a jail sentence and will instead pay a $5,000 fine.

The military veteran, 56, from Maylands, pleaded guilty to four counts of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence late last year.

The criminal charge carries a maximum penalty of three years imprisonment, but the court delayed the man's sentencing so he could attend weekly counselling sessions.

Over the course of the court-ordered psychological counselling, the man was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Bunbury magistrate Mark Millington said the charges were "high level offending", but the man had made significant progress during the past 12 months.

"You haven't put a foot wrong," Mr Millington said.

"You've done a lot, you've realised you needed treatment, but the sentencing still needs to reflect the seriousness of these matters."

The man said he regretted his actions, and told the court he was grateful for the help he had received.

"It's actually because of you and the court that I got help," he said.

He will receive weekly counselling for the next two years.

The ABC chose not to name the man to protect the identity of his victim.
