'No idea': Tasmania Devils boss on stadium vote result

Tasmania Devils chief Brendon Gale has "no idea" if state parliament will approve a stadium essential to the club's AFL entry.

Tasmanian parliament's lower house, with Labor and Liberal party backing, will soon vote in support of a proposed $1.13 billion stadium at Macquarie Point in Hobart.

The state's upper house will in early December then cast a deciding vote with several MPs undecided.

At least three of eight Independent MPs will need to vote in support for the stadium to clear parliament.

Gale, asked if he had a feeling for the result of that vote, replied on Thursday: "No idea."

The AFL is steadfast a new stadium is a condition of the Devils entering the men's and women's leagues in 2028.

"It has been a real baptism of fire," Gale told reporters.

"In a perverse way some might even say it's a little on brand.

"We find a way to make things hard at times in Tassie ... I feel like we are being forged in fire."

Greens and Independent MPs who have publicly said they will vote against the stadium met with the AFL in Melbourne late last month.

"I am not surprised they made the trip," Gale said.

"They have got a responsibility to their constituents to look at all options ... get all of the information.

"But the answer is a pretty clear one and the licence is conditional.

"A stadium goes to the strength and viability of our football club. And more than that, we want to provide a place for as many Tasmanians as possible to watch the footy.

"Our response is clear, it's consistent (but) I can understand why parliamentarians might want to take it a step further to get more information."

The Devils will enter the second-tier VFL and VFLW competitions next year with the first VFL training on Monday.

"We're going to have a squad in the vicinity of 80 and that will trim down at various stages," Gale said.

The fledgling club had signed an apparel deal, with more potential sponsors waiting, pending entry to the AFL and AFLW.

"We have had a range of really encouraging discussions with global brands, national brands, local brands," Gale said.

"There is that element of just holding off and waiting to see what transpires, notwithstanding our confidence, and that is prudent."
