The Oakland A's lost to the Los Angeles Angels, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon.
The offense got hot late in Friday's opener, resulting in a comeback, walk-off victory in the 10th inning. No such offensive outburst came in Saturday's game against Angels right-handed starter Dylan Bundy. The A's scored one run on Robbie Grossman's RBI single that scored Stephen Piscotty, who had doubled, in the seventh inning.
The A's nearly mustered a late-inning comeback in the eighth. Marcus Semien and Ramon Laureano _ who has four hits, including a double and a home run, in two games _ hit back-to-back singles off Angels reliever Ty Buttrey. Matt Chapman cut the rally short with a double play, and Matt Olson chopped one to Buttrey to end the inning.
No late inning heroics this time.
"We're one good at-bat from putting real pressure there, and we're in the middle of the order, too," manager Bob Melvin said. "Unfortunately, just a little short."
