No harm, no foul? DeMarcus Cousins has understandable reaction to technical foul

Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins is known for being an emotional player. But his reaction to being slapped with a technical foul after tossing Jeremy Lamb’s shoe towards the stands in Monday night’s win over the Charlotte Hornets was probably not what many would expect from the fiery big man.

After all, Cousins leads the league in career technical fouls, with 121. Cousins picked up six of his technical fouls during the 2018-19 season — an astounding number, considering Cousins did not return to the court until January and has played in just 14 games.

On the court, Cousins displayed an incredulous grimace after NBA official Brian Forte called the technical. In his postgame media session, however, Cousins sounded emotional, yet resigned.

“Next time, I’ll just step on the shoe, roll my ankle, break it, tear an Achilles,” Cousins said.

It took Cousins a year to return to NBA basketball after tearing an Achilles’ tendon. Naturally, he is a bit sensitive about the need to do everything possible to prevent future injury. But with all NBA players depending on the health of their bodies for the livelihoods, Cousins surely is not alone.
