BENGALURU: Bangalore University (BU) on Tuesday decided not to allow student organisations affiliated to political parties to indulge in any activities on its campus.
The decision was taken following a clash on Monday between two student groups, one of which owes allegiance to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which is backed by BJP. The clash resulted in police lathicharge on the campus.
“We do not want any politically backed student outfits on our campus. If students have a problem, we are here to resolve it. Why do we need them to spoil the peace on campus? Students at the grassroots level are ultimately at the receiving end in these clashes,” said Venugopal KR, vice-chancellor, BU.
On Tuesday, both the parties — ABVP and the university students’ union — protested on campus. While ABVP members raised the problem of marks card delay in front of the administrative building, the vice-chancellor met them and said the issue will be resolved within 15 days. He also met Premashree A, the student who was injured on Monday. TNN
