No grounds for concern as Forest Ranger lands back-to-back wins in Huxley Stakes

FOREST RANGER took his record at Chester to two wins from two visits when repeating his victory of 12 months ago in the Group 2 Huxley Stakes.

Richard Fahey’s 9-2 chance collared the pacemaking Success Days at the top of the straight and battled on willingly for Tony Hamilton to score by three-quarters of a length from Matterhorn.

“He seems to like it round here and everything went right for us today,” said Fahey. “It happened the way we would like it.

“He’s probably not a Group 1 horse - we’ve had a couple of punts at Group 1s and he hasn’t got the speed for it.

“He’s got a Group 2 penalty now. That makes it very, very tough but we will get the calendar out and make a plan for him.

“He’s won a couple of Group 2s and a couple of Group 3s. He’s been a wonderful horse. He cost 21 grand, so we’ve had a lot of fun.”
