No going back for Daniel Levy and Tottenham as Paulo Fonseca makes new job decision

Tottenham’s hunt for a new manager has gone from bad to worse over the last few days.

It was originally presumed that after the club called off a move to appoint Antonio Conte, Roma’s former manager, Paulo Fonseca – who was ironically replaced by former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho in Rome – would be hired as the new head coach.

However, with reports emerging that the deal is now off, football.london understand that Tottenham and their new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, decided to turn their attention to Gennaro Gattuso, who had just been let go by Italian side, Fiorentina, having only been appointed just weeks before.

Any potential deal for that appointment is also off too, after the club’s hierarchy listened to a social media campaign #NoToGattuso launched by angry Spurs fans after hearing that they were linked with the 43-year-old.

And now, in another interesting twist to this whirlwind tale, Fiorentina could now replace Gattuso with Fonseca.

That is according to CaughtOffside, who report that the Portuguese has already moved on from his failed Spurs adventure and is in negotiations with the Italian club.

However, whether the 48-year-old will definitely get the job remains to be seen, as former Leicester City manager, Claudio Ranieri, is also reportedly in the running.

The 69-year-old notably won the Premier League title during his time at the King Power Stadium and generally has great experience in the game, having also coached big names like Chelsea and Juventus in his career.
