No further coronavirus related deaths reported in Dumfries and Galloway

New figures show there were no coronavirus deaths in Dumfries and Galloway last week.

It's just the second time this year that has been the case the previous occasion being the week beginning March 1.

It means the number of people to have died as a result of coronavirus this year remains at 168, with 89 of those deaths being this year.

The figures from National Records of Scotland show there were 61 of coronavirus deaths across the country last week, down from 65 the week before.

It means the total number of cases where coronavirus has been mentioned on a death certificate now stands at 9,958.

The Scottish Government reports daily figures based on people to have died within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. By that measure there had been 7,596 deaths by yesterday.

The situation in Dumfries and Galloway has been improving in recent days with no new cases reported on either Sunday or Monday.

As of March 27, the region's seven day positivity rate between 100,000 stood at 20.2 with a test positivity rate of one per cent. The Scottish rates were 67.6 and 2.6 per cent respectively.

And up to March 29, 83,963 people across the region had received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine - equivalent to 66.8 per cent of the population. 18,392 people had received their second dose - 14.6 per cent of the population.

Both figures are the highest percentages among mainland Scotland's health boards.
