No further coronavirus deaths in in Dumfries and Galloway

No further coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Dumfries and Galloway in the past week.

March 1 to 7 was the first week this year that the National Records of Scotland figures show no Covid-19 deaths being recorded in the region.

It means the 2021 figure remains at 85, with the overall total at 164.

The number is based on incidents where coronavirus is mentioned on a death certificate. By that method, there were 141 deaths across Scotland between March 1 and March 7, 89 less than the week before.

The overall total now sits at 9,725.

Figures compiled for First Minister Nicola Sturgeon's daily briefing are based on the number of people to have died within 28 days of a positive test.

By that measure there have been 7,461 deaths.

The latest figures from Public Health Scotland show that there were 22 cases in the region in the seven days leading up to March 6. That gives a positivity rate of 0.8 per cent and 14.8 cases per 100,000 people. Argyll and Bute is the only Scottish council area with a lower rate.

The Scottish positivity rate is 3.2 per cent and 63.6 cases per 100,000 people.
