'No fear' - Jamie Carragher delivers relegation verdict after Leeds United's slow start

Jamie Carragher has dismissed concerns that Leeds United could be drawn into a relegation battle this season.

The Whites remain winless after five Premier League matches following their 1-1 draw at St James' Park against Newcastle United on Friday night.

Despite taking the lead and missing a glut of chances, United were unable to make their first-half dominance count and leave the North East with all three points.

Leeds' slow start to the campaign has left some supporters worrying about 'second-season syndrome' and the potential for Marcelo Bielsa's side to be drawn into a scrap at the wrong end of the table.

However, Carragher has insisted Leeds have too much quality to be concerned about relegation and has backed them to show that in the coming matches.

"They have the slight edge, from the start of the game you almost felt Leeds had control in the game and Newcastle were going to look for that counter-attack," he told Sky Sports.

"There’s nothing with playing counter-attacking football, you can be organised and cause problems for the opposition when you’re in possession.

"But with Newcastle, you didn’t feel like they were organised and that the opposition could score. Both teams are in front of a passionate crowd, I think Leeds have more quality, the way they play, last season will give them confidence and I have no fears in Leeds being in a relegation fight."
