No Face-time for Prayut

Facebook Thailand has denied that chief executive officer and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg will meet Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha during a visit to Thailand on Oct 30.

“There are no plans currently for any of our senior leaders to visit Thailand,” a Facebook spokesperson said in an email on Wednesday.

The statement was a direct contradiction of what Gen Prayut said yesterday. "Mark Zuckerberg will come to Thailand on a business trip,” he told the media. “He asked to meet me to discuss cooperation in preventing and solving the problems of transnational crimes, and what kind of measures and plans should be in place."

"Please do not link this meeting to other issues,” he continued. “It is just an exchange of opinions. It's better than no communication at all."

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak had told Prachachat newspaper that Mr Zuckerberg would also discuss the expansion of Facebook in Asean.

There was no immediate explanation for the apparent misunderstanding.
