"No excuses" Newcastle United fans send strong message after team selection against Brentford

Newcastle United fans are insistent their side must progress to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup after Steve Bruce named a strong team to face Brentford.

The Magpies are searching for success in the cup competitions after years of underperforming across the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

On Tuesday night, they travel to Championship outfit Brentford, who sit fourth in the second-tier standings.

However, the Bees have made multiple changes amid a hectic schedule with star man and former Newcastle striker Ivan Toney out of the XI.

Newcastle, by contrast, have gone with a full-strength side, with Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron and Ryan Fraser all starting.

In total, it's four changes from the side that drew 1-1 with ten-man Fulham at the weekend, with Isaac Hayden, Jamaal Lewis, Jacob Murphy and Fraser all coming into the XI.

With a strong team on the pitch and Brentford making several changes, the supporters have made it clear that tonight represents a massive opportunity for the club.

Brentford have Toney amongst their substitutes as well as first-choice goalkeeper David Raya, Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Noorgard, whilst Pontus Jansson misses out altogether.

Newcastle are still without star man Allan Saint-Maximin as the Frenchman recovers from COVID-19 but may welcome back Jamaal Lascelles who has been missing in action due to the same reason.

On the game ahead, Wilson told NUFC TV: "Any chance you get to get into a semi-final you know you are so close to a final now, the games get more and more important.

"I think it's been a long time since the club reached a semi-final. I've never played in a semi-final so I'd love that as well as people at the club.

"We will be working hard to make sure we do that. Part of the reason why I joined the club was to try to win more games and win things.

"This is a great opportunity for us."
