'No discussion' - Jurgen Klopp gives blunt verdict on red card decision in Liverpool defeat

Jurgen Klopp believes West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell should have been sent off for his challenge on Jordan Henderson as Liverpool slumped to defeat.

Henderson needed treatment having been caught high on his leg by the follow-through of Cresswell during the opening stages of the Reds’ 3-2 Premier League loss at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

No foul was awarded by referee Craig Pawson, while VAR Stuart Attwell saw no reason for the official to take further action having reviewed several replays of the incident.

But having seen the challenge on television for the first time, Klopp was in absolutely no doubt.

“I saw only the situation with Aaron and Hendo now and the way I saw it now it’s a clear red card,” said the Reds boss.

“There’s no discussion possible.

"I don’t know if they (the officials) will probably say it’s because he touched the ball beforehand, but (it was) a reckless challenge.

“You can touch whatever you want before, but you cannot control your leg that much if you hit your your opponent high up the leg on the shin.

"You can’t do that as a challenge. You can’t kick the ball like that.

“But we can’t make those decisions. But the referee, I don’t know what he would say about that.

"But in the game he looked quite confident his decisions were all right.”
