'No definitive timescale' for end to Glasgow School of Art fire probe 30 months on

There remains 'no definitive timescale' for completing the investigation into the Glasgow School of Art fire over 30 months after the incident took place.

The blaze broke out on June 15, 2018 as the building was nearing the end of a £35m restoration, following a previous fire in May of 2014.

A year later, in June of 2019, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said the investigation was 'entering its final phases'.

But SFRS has told Glasgow Live that "no definitive timescale" can be provided for the investigation to be concluded.

Deputy Assistant Chief Officer Alasdair Perry said: "This has been a complex and thorough investigation which remains ongoing.

"It is not possible at present to provide a definitive timescale for the investigation being concluded, and we would like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience as we continue with this significant fire investigation."

The School of Art said it is committed to rebuilding the Mackintosh Building once the investigation work has been completed into the cause of the blaze - which spread to the neighbouring O2 ABC concert venue on Sauchiehall Street.

Back in April last year, Historic Scotland removed their objection to the demolition of the ABC, an historic former cinema, after a report stated the building is in danger of collapsing and has been overrun by vermin and raw sewage.
