No crowd cap yet for Sydney A-League games

A crow of about 10,000 people is expected for the A-League season opener at Bankwest Stadium. (AAP)

Organisers expect Sunday night's A-League season opener between Western Sydney Wanderers and Macarthur FC to go ahead without crowd limits at Bankwest Stadium.

Crowds at Sydney's major stadium were brought back to 100 per cent seated capacity earlier this month before the COVID-19 outbreak on Sydney's northern beaches.

This allows 30 000 fans to attend matches at Bankwest which is yet to change despite a number of restrictions being implemented across greater Sydney.

The A-League was yet to receive any information of changes as of late Wednesday afternoon.

Even if the capacity was reduced to 50 per cent, it's understood it would not impact on the expected crowd of about 10,000.

Restrictions would, however, change the way seating was allocated, with Bankwest Stadium having used similar models during the NRL season.

Ticket sales have not been paused.

The match is the only sporting event with a significant crowd expected in NSW in the next week.

The A-League was on Tuesday forced to postpone almost half of the competition's first 35 games due to the outbreak.

Bigger decisions await in other sports, including whether the third cricket Test will go ahead at the SCG next month with a crowd figure still to be determined.

A NSW health spokesperson told AAP the situation was still being monitored.

"NSW Health continues to monitor the evolving situation relating to the recent Avalon cluster," the spokesperson said.

"Our concern remains the health and safety of the people of NSW.

"We will update the community as the situation develops and we will adjust our advice accordingly."
