'No criminality established' after alleged Edinburgh church sex attack in Leith

Police launched an investigation following an alleged serious sexual assault outside a church in Edinburgh.

Officers have stated that "enquiries are underway" after it was alleged that a 17-year-old girl had been raped in Leith.

The attack was said to have taken place near the South Leith Parish Church on Constitution Street on Thursday last week.

However, officers have now shut down the case, establishing after "extensive investigations" that there was "no criminality".

In a statement, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Following extensive investigations, no criminality was established.”
