No Covid deaths confirmed across the UK but Bristol area still records 15 new cases

There were no new coronavirus deaths recorded across the whole of the UK in the last 24 hours.

It's the first time since July that the country has achieved such a major milestone in its fight against the pandemic.

But while the news is cause for celebration, the virus has not gone and cases were still found in the region.

In total, 15 new Covid cases recorded in the Bristol region.

Bristol recorded the highest number of 11 new cases discovered in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, three new cases were found in South Gloucestershire and one was recorded in North Somerset.

The latest weekly data shows that in the seven days to May 27, 103 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Bristol.

Windmill Hill and Knowle West were both found to have the highest number of new cases of any neighbour in the area, with both places recording 12 new cases.

Lockleaze also had a high number of new cases, with nine positive tests returned.

St Paul's case numbers have continued to fall after this area had previously seen a massive spike.

Its seven-day infection rate increased to 155.9 cases per 100,000 population, but this has now fallen to just 29.7. Four new cases were recorded in the area during the seven-day window

Weekly infection rate figures

The latest weekly infection rate for Bristol for the seven days up to May 27 is 22.2, slightly up on the rate of 20.1 for the seven days up to May 25.

The latest case rate remains below the England national average, which was 22.5 for the same period.

North Somerset’s case rate is now 5.6, well below the national average and down on its previous rate of 6.5. The rate in South Gloucestershire has also fallen from 10.5 to 9.5.

No new deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test have been recorded in Bristol today, and the total remains at 471.
