No Covid-19 linked deaths in West Dunbartonshire for a second successive week

West Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute have again both reported no deaths related to coronavirus in the past week.

Figures published last week by the National Records for Scotland show that the number of deaths in West Dunbartonshire up until July 19 remained at 124, whilst in Argyll and Bute – which covers Helensburgh – the figure sits at 64.

This becomes the third week since lockdown was introduced in March that West Dunbartonshire hasn’t reported a death linked to the deadly virus, and the first time that no deaths have been recorded locally in successive weeks.

Over the past four weeks just four deaths linked to the condition have been recorded across the locality

Of those to have lost their life in the area, 59 have been in care homes, 60 in hospitals and five in residential settings.

Nationwide, Scotland reported its lowest number of weekly Covid related deaths since lockdown was introduced, with six registered. The figure peaked at 661 in April.

The news came as Scotland took another step towards exiting lockdown this month, with hairdressers, barbers and indoor hospitality venues able to open for the first time since March.
