No coronavirus deaths in Nottinghamshire hospitals for first time in 8 months

There have been no deaths from coronavirus reported at Nottingham and Nottinghamshire's hospitals for the first time in eight months, marking a huge milestone.

The most recent seven-day period with zero deaths at Nottingham University Hospitals, Sherwood Forest Hospitals, and Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust was between September 5 and 11.

Amanda Sullivan, chief officer at Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Group, told Nottinghamshire Live the news was a "good milestone".

She told a public health briefing on Friday, April 23: "We are seeing the hospital figures show a steady decline but we are still seeing people admitted to hospital who are very ill with coronavirus.

"It is very pleasing that we've had no deaths in hospital from coronavirus in the week leading up to April 21. That is really a good milestone.

"Psychologically, it is a real boost for the people working in our hospitals, for months they have had very significant pressures and to see the results of the vaccination programme, the reduction in rates, the impact of the lockdown coming to fruition.

‘It’s a tremendous psychological boost for those staff."

Jonathan Gribbin, director of Public Health for Nottinghamshire, added: "It is so encouraging to hear that we have not seen any deaths for the most recent period."
