A punter has avoided conviction in a Melbourne court over an international tennis match-fixing syndicate.
Harsimrat Singh placed corrupt bets on matches in the 2018 Brazil F1 Futures Tournament.
The 23-year-old was involved in the match-fixing syndicate allegedly run by another man, Ravinder Dandiwal, in India.
Singh was spared a conviction in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday for two charges of using corrupt information for betting on matches over April 24 and 25 that year.
Living at Point Cook on a student visa, the Indian national was instead handed an adjourned undertaking of $500.
Court documents show he placed two $100 bets on a match between Brazilian players Thales Turini and Carlos Severino.
Authorities said the players had agreed with Dandiwal for Turini to win the first set and Severino to win the match. Singh scored $1550.
The next day, he placed three bets worth a combined $2021 on a match between Egyptian player Issam Taweel and French player Maxence Broville.
They had arranged for Broville to win two sets to love, according to police.
Singh profited by $446. Seven similar corrupt betting charges against him were struck out.
Dandiwal is not charged by Australian authorities.
But they allege he told Singh and others how to bet, what amount to put on and where to send payment for players in on the scheme.
A total of 12 men - including Brazilian players Caio Silva, Christian Lindell - are named in court documents.
Another alleged customer of Dandiwal's, 23-year-old Australian Rajesh Kumar, also faces charges.
He did not appear in court on Friday but is due to return at a later date.
