No contract offer for injury-hit Cats stalwart

Two-time Geelong best and fairest winner Cameron Guthrie's 240-game AFL career at the Cats is over after the midfielder wasn't offered a contract for next season.

Guthrie won the second of two Carji Greeves Medals, which he shared with Jeremy Cameron, in the Cats' 2022 premiership campaign, after previously earning the honour in his 2020 All-Australian season.

But injuries cruelled the later stages of his career and Guthrie, 33, was restricted to just six games in 2023, four last year and didn't play an AFL game this season.

"Cam has been an outstanding and dedicated servant of the Geelong Football Club, both on and off the field," Cats football boss Andrew Mackie said in a statement.

"He has been ultra-consistent and had the special ability to elevate his game in key moments and times of success, particularly throughout our 2022 premiership campaign.

"Cam will always be a great Geelong person, with his influence extending well beyond what he achieved on the field."

Guthrie was drafted at pick No.23 in the 2010 AFL draft, debuted in round one the next season before enjoying a breakout campaign in 2012.

He became a Cats mainstay across half-back, then later in the midfield, and played alongside younger brother Zach in the 2022 flag.

But foot, quad, achilles and calf injuries derailed his next three seasons and while Guthrie played VFL late in the 2025 campaign, he couldn't crack Geelong's AFL team in finals.

Having not played at AFL level since round 11 last year, it is unclear whether Guthrie will look to continue his career elsewhere.
