No contest for RWITC committee this year too

MUMBAI: With no new candidate coming forward to contest the elections for the managing committee for the year 2024-25, the incumbent committee is set to oversee the affairs of the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) for a third term in a row.

It is a rare achievement considering the fact that the committee has a history of bitterly fought contests. The date of filing nominations ended yesterday (Aug 26) without anyone even ready to fight for the two seats up for the contest in the Board Of Appeal.

The managing committee, led by Surendra Sanas, has pulled off a dream deal for the lease renewal and construction of a new club house with the BMC and State Government. This is one of the reasons no one even considered throwing their hat in the ring for the apex body.

There were rumours that a former prominent committee member might contest but he backed out realising he had no support for such a move.

The managing committee: Surendra Sanas (Chairman), Gautam Lala, Jaydev Mody, Jiyaji Bhosale, Khushroo Dhunjibhoy, Dr. Ram Shroff, Shiven Surendranath, Sunil Jhangiani and Vijay Shirke. Board Of Appeal: Shivlal Daga (Chairman), Dilip Goculdas, Asif Lampwala, Zinia Lawyer, Hoshang Nazir and Gulamhusein Vahanvaty
