No concerns for Bristol Bears players after Dings Crusaders' game is postponed due to coronavirus

There are no concerns for the trio of Bristol Bears players who represented Dings Crusaders in their win over Taunton last week.

Dings' National League Two South game against Old Redcliffians - a Bristol derby - has been postponed as a precaution after a Crusaders player came into contact at work with someone who has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Whilst the player has not shown any symptoms of the virus himself, it was decided the game should be postponed as a precaution after the squad had trained together in the week.

The player raised the issue with Dings, who subsequently consulted with the RFU and the NCA before deciding to call the game off.

A trio of Bristol Bears players had represented Dings in their win over Taunton last week, with scrum-half Blake Boyland, flanker James Dun and hooker George Kloska all featuring.

Yet the players were given a week off training due to the fact there was no Bears game scheduled for this weekend.

It is understood that it was unlikely that the players would have featured for Dings this weekend anyway, due to the Bears' weekend off.

The current medical advice is for people to self-isolate if they have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus.

However, there is no such guidance for people who have come into contact with others that have had contact with people who have tested positive for the virus.

With the government still allowing sporting events to continue at the moment, it is currently business as usual for the Bears.

A statement yesterday said: "Premiership Rugby is working in close contact with DCMS, Public Health England and World Health Organisation; following all the experts’ advice. They will continue to work closely with government on a schedule for the remainder of the season, should the guidance on sporting events change.

"Current advice from Premiership Rugby is that Bristol Bears’ season will continue as normal until further notice."
