No change for West Ham's game against Wolves in Premier League despite coronavirus fears

West Ham's Premier League match against Wolves on Sunday is still scheduled to go ahead as planned despite the coronavirus outbreak gaining strength across the country and the globe.

The number of coronavirus cases in the UK rose to 460 on Wednesday, representing the biggest single-day increase, and experts have warned that number will continue to rise.

Reports on Wednesday night have said that the Premier League is set to go behind closed doors imminently as the country tries to tackle the spread of the virus.

A meeting of the government’s Cobra committee is expected to officially announce that the UK had moved from the ‘contain’ phase of their coronavirus action plan to the ‘delay’ phase, which could include social distancing measures.

West Ham said on Tuesday that their game this weekend against Nuno Espirito Santo's team was set to go ahead as planned but that they would be monitoring the situation.

"All necessary measures are being taken and our medical staff, in line with guidance and advice from the relevant authorities, are constantly managing the Club’s position, with the safety and welfare of our players, staff and supporters being of paramount importance," the Hammers said in a statement.

As of Thursday morning, football.london understands there has been no change to the plans for this weekend and that all Premier League clubs are waiting on guidance from the Government and the League itself before making any changes.

The Hammers have been following guidance for the past couple of weeks at Rush Green where handshakes have been banned at the training ground, all players have been given anti-bacterial hand wash and extra hand sanitisers have been installed.

West Ham's visit to Arsenal last weekend has raised concerns about the virus spreading after Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis, who has contracted the virus, was at the Emirates the previous midweek to see his team dump the Gunners out of the Europa League, with the Hammers the next team to visit the stadium.
