'No chance' - Swansea City boss Steve Cooper voices frustrations over fixture schedule and Barnsley and Blackburn travel plans

Steve Cooper has voiced strong concerns with Swansea City's fixture schedule after hinting his side are treated worse than other teams in the Championship.

The Swans take on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Tuesday night, with kick-off against Tony Mowbray's men scheduled for fewer than 72 hours after they defeated Barnsley at Oakwell.

While some members of the backroom team stayed in England, players and coaches flew back to south Wales from Yorkshire immediately after the 2-0 triumph over the Tykes.

The 11 stars who featured against Valerien Ismael's side were afforded the chance to recover on Sunday, but the squad will fly to the north west of England on Monday afternoon after a training session at their Fairwood complex.

Immediately after the clash with Rovers on Tuesday night, they will then take to the skies once again to travel back to Swansea ahead of Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round contest with Nottingham Forest at the Liberty Stadium.

And Swansea boss Cooper has hinted that his troops are unfairly treated compared to other sides in the second tier.

"What's important this year is that this is a season for adapting. We're dealing with it for the first time. We've got to go to Blackburn on Tuesday, and we're still in Yorkshire now. It's not fair," he said after the triumph over Barnsley.

"You guys who live in south Wales, particularly in Swansea, know how long a journey that is. We've got four days of travel, truth be told.

"We've had really busy periods already, nine games in 29 days [earlier in the season], that's never been done before.

"I've said all along, player availability is key to giving yourselves the best chance this year, but the players have taken great responsibility for that in terms of their recovery, nutrition, making sure they get the right amount of sleep and looking after themselves. The more fresh our boys can be going into the game the better.

"It's going to be really tough, a quick turnaround for Tuesday. Is it unfair and unkind? Yeah. Would they do it to some of the other clubs in our league? No chance. But we get that treatment, but we'll get on with it."

Despite the brutal nature of the schedule, Swansea strengthened their grip on an automatic promotion spot by beating Barnsley 2-0 on Saturday night.

Goals from Ben Cabango and Jamal Lowe earned the visitors all three points as the Swans extended their unbeaten run to six matches in all competitions ahead of the Blackburn fixture.

Following the clash with Forest on Saturday, Swansea take on Brentford at the Liberty Stadium before ending the month with a trip to Rotherham United.
