No 'catastrophe' for Bundesliga if player tests positive for coronavirus, says Borussia Dortmund chief

Borussia Dortmund chief Carsten Cramer says it will not be a “catastrophe” if a player tests positive for coronavirus once the Bundesliga returns..

The top two flights of German football are set to resume behind closed doors this weekend having been suspended since March.

Plans for the restart were hit when second-tier side Dynamo Dresden put their entire squad and staff into a two-week isolation after two players tested positive over the weekend, while Bundesliga outfit Cologne have confirmed three cases in recent weeks.

But organisers are pressing on, with players spending this week living in quarantine, staying in hotels and only leaving to travel to training grounds.

Dortmund face Schalke in the Revierderby on Saturday afternoon, and managing director Cramer says he is “relieved football is coming back”.

"The moment they say 'Dortmund, you have too many positive tests' we have to make a decision,” he added. “Right now we have always had negative tests."

"A positive test won't be a catastrophe as long as we have the rules and recommendations for how to get along with it," he added.

"We are relieved and satisfied we can restart because without a restart not only Dortmund, but the Bundesliga would get in really big problems."
