The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), in a statement on Monday, said there was no breach in the security of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Lucknow on December 28 and accused her of violating security protocol.
Ms. Vadra had alleged that a woman police official in Lucknow manhandled her and grabbed her “neck” while she was on her way to meet an activist and a party member jailed during the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
The CRPF said that on December 28, the only programme indicated by Ms. Vadra was a visit to Congress party office in Lucknow for which Advance Security Liaison (ASL) was conducted. The detailed programme was not communicated to the local police by Ms. Vadra’s personal staff. “There was no breach in security by the official [Lucknow police],” it said.
Ms. Vadra violated security protocols on three grounds — “unscheduled movement so advance security liaison couldn’t be conducted, protectee used non-bullet resistant vehicle while travelling, personal security officer (PSO) was there and she took lift in a scooty,” the statement said.
“Despite these security constraints, appropriate security cover was provided by CRPF during the visit. Such security violations are communicated to the protectee and advised for ensuring proper security arrangements,” it added.
