A 22-year-old man was ordered held without bond for allegedly leading police on a chase into west suburban Oak Park after a fatal shooting Wednesday in Lawndale.
Anthony Williams, 22, is charged with a felony count of aggravated fleeing, according to Chicago police. He’s also charged with two counts of disobeying a red light and one count of driving without a license.
Judge David Navarro ordered Williams, who lives in West Town, be held without bond during a hearing Saturday. His next court date was set for Wednesday.
Williams was allegedly the driver of a white Jeep Cherokee that pulled up to two men, 29 and 36 years old, who were standing on the front porch of a home in the 1900 block of South Trumbull Avenue about 4 p.m. Wednesday, Chicago police and Cook County state’s attorney’s prosecutors said. Someone inside the Jeep then fired shots at the two men.
The younger man, Chris Fox, was hit in the torso and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds.
A bullet grazed the older man on the calf and he declined medical attention, police said.
A witness saw someone in the Jeep’s front passenger seat remove a ski mask during the incident, prosecutors said.
About 20 minutes later, officers spotted a Jeep matching the description of the shooter’s vehicle in the 1400 block of South Keeler Avenue, prosecutors said. The officers walked up to the Jeep for a field interview, but it took off, leading police on a pursuit that ended in west suburban Oak Park.
Williams got out and tried to run, but was caught by police and taken into custody, prosecutors said.
A homicide investigation by Area Central detectives is ongoing, police said.
