There will be no Battle of Brisbane mark II, after Manny Pacquiao pulled out of his planned rematch with Australian world title holder Jeff Horn.
The Queensland Government made the announcement today, two months ahead of the scheduled November 12 sequel.
Horn caused one of the greatest upsets in boxing history when he defeated Pacquiao on a points decision at Lang Park on July 2.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Government would still support Horn's WBO world welterweight title defence but against a new challenger, yet to be named.
"We have been advised today that Manny Pacquiao ... cannot return to the ring on 12 November as proposed," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"I am advised Mr Pacquiao, who is also a Senator of the Philippines, will have other commitments at that time.
"Whoever the challenger is, my Government will help arrange the meeting because it will be good news for Queensland."
She said her Government would continue to work with Horn's management regarding the Brisbane boxer's first title defence.
More to come.
