A man will remain behind bars after allegedly stabbing a woman to death in a domestic violence-related incident in NSW's far west.

Kenneth James Knight, 50, allegedly stabbed the woman at a house on Wortumertie Street in Bourke on Saturday morning.

The 47-year-old woman died at the scene.

Knight was taken to Bourke Police Station and charged with domestic violence-related murder and contravening an apprehended violence order.

He was refused bail to appear at Dubbo Bail Court on Sunday. He made no application for bail, which was formally refused.

Knight will return to Dubbo Local Court court on Monday.
