Bail was denied Saturday for a man charged with trying to kill his ex-girlfriend a day earlier in Austin.
Gregory Ousley, 35, of Austin, faces felony counts of attempted first-degree murder and domestic battery, Cook County prosecutors said.
About 6:25 a.m. Friday, Ousley met the 42-year-old woman near her mother’s home to discuss their relationship, which had recently ended after two years, prosecutors and Chicago police said.
While talking in her car, Ousley began choking the woman, who lost consciousness twice during the attack, prosecutors said. Ousley left when he was startled by a person who approached them while he was allegedly choking her. He was taken into custody after he returned and lobbed bricks at her car.
Ousley is also facing a pending unlawful restraint charge in a separate case and is on probation for a 2018 domestic battery, prosecutors said. Both cases involve the same woman, who has an active order of protection against Ousley.
Hussain Khan, Ousley’s public defender, told Judge Mary Marubio that Ousley is currently unemployed and relies on medication for a mental health condition.
Marubio ordered Ousley held without bail, noting he had recently cut off an electronic monitoring bracelet, and revoked his bond in the pending case.
His next court date was set for Friday.
