Aug. 16--A Chicago man sent hundreds of threatening text messages to his ex-girlfriend, placed her under surveillance and nearly crashed his car into hers while stalking her, prosecutors said.
On Saturday, Cook County Associate Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. ordered Brandon Coleman, 25, held without bail during a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.
Coleman, of the 0-100 block of East Lake Street, who police said is a known Gangster Disciples street gang member, was charged with stalking.
He dated the victim until April 2011 and has a son with her, prosecutors said.
In August 2014, Coleman called his ex-girlfriend and threatened to kill her because he couldn't pick their son up from school, prosecutors allege.
Coleman also sent his ex-girlfriend text messages telling her that he had people following her who would do anything he wanted them to, prosecutors said.
In November, Coleman sent texts threatening to kill her because he could not see his son over the holidays, prosecutors said.
In April, prosecutors said, Coleman's ex-girlfriend was at the child's school when she received a text from Coleman in which he threatened to hurt her and her boyfriend.
The text also included details about the type of car she was in, prosecutors said.
In early July, the woman was driving downtown after leaving school when she saw Coleman driving a car that almost struck her vehicle, according to prosecutors. Coleman rolled down his window, threatened her and then began following her car, prosecutors said.
