Exam results will not be determined by algorithms this summer, the Education Secretary has vowed.
Gavin Williamson said the Government was 'putting trust in teachers' rather than using an algorithm.
Last summer Mr Williamson had to apologise after the algorithm system downgraded many results, and left young people worried about how their futures would be affected.
The Government made a U-turn and said grades would be the result of teacher assessment.
At today's Downing Street press briefing, Mr Williamson said there would be 'no algorithms whatsoever' used this summer.
He said that more information about the appeals process would be given in the House of Commons tomorrow.
Mr Williamson said "As I said many times before, we are putting trust in teachers.
"That’s where the trust is going – there is going to be no algorithms whatsoever but there will be a very clear and robust appeals mechanism.
"But I’m afraid you’re going to have to forgive me – it is right that this is announced in the House of Commons and not to yourself, so sorry about that.
"But that will be happening tomorrow, so just a few more hours to wait."
All schools are set to reopen on March 8, as announced by the Prime Minister earlier this week.
Mr Williamson praised the efforts of teachers, parents and children for their work and patience during the pandemic.
He said: "We can now plan for the return of all pupils to schools and colleges, as part of a road map for leaving lockdown.
"I want to say once again a massive thank you to our incredible teachers, leaders, support staff and childcare workers.
"You have been going above and beyond to keep schools and colleges open for vulnerable children and children of critical workers, and to keep the remainder of young people learning when they’re at home.
"I also want to thank parents, who have been supporting their children while they learn at home.
"And I want to thank children and young people themselves, for their patience and resilience.
"I know it hasn’t been easy. But you have adapted and done so much to make sure that you’ve been able to continue to learn."
