AMES, Iowa–Lindell Wigginton came off the bench and scored 28 points as No. 20 Iowa State defeated West Virginia 93-68 on Tuesday.
Marial Shayok chipped in 18 points and Nick Weiler-Babb had 14 for the Cyclones (16-5, 5-3 Big 12).
The win marks Iowa State’s fourth win in five games.
The Cyclones went on a 28-10 run to end the first half and take a 45-28 into the locker room.
However, the Mountaineers (9-12, 1-7) managed to cut the deficit to 61-51 with just under 10 minutes left courtesy of back-to-back baskets by Emmitt Matthews Jr.
But that was as close as WVU would get. Iowa State hit seven straight shots to take a 74-56 lead on Wigginton’s three-point play with 6:12 remaining.
Lamont West led the Mountaineers with 24 points. He made 5-of-7 from 3. Esa Ahmad and Matthews each added 11 points.
WVU turned the ball over 19 times.
The Mountaineers were without Beetle Bolden, who suffered a high ankle sprain in Saturday’s loss to Tennessee.
WVU Head coach Bob Huggins was ejected from the game with 3:28 left for arguing with the officials.
The Mountaineers shot 42 percent from the field, 36 percent from beyond the arc and 62 percent from the charity stripe.
The Cyclones shot 55 percent from the floor, 25 percent from 3-point range and 88 percent from the free throw line.
WVU returns home to battle Oklahoma on Saturday at noon.
