TALLAHASSEE, Fla. _ Statistically, it wasn't pretty, but the Florida State Seminoles defeated the rival Miami Hurricanes, 68-62, Wednesday night to get their first ACC win and their 13th victory of the season.

Both teams struggled offensively, with the Seminoles shooting 39 percent in the first half and 42.2 during the game.

Miami shot just 29 percent from the field in the first half, but the team knocked down 13 of 15 free throws to keep the game close.

The Hurricanes shot 22 free throws during the contest, compared to FSU's 13.

The Seminoles started to pull away thanks to an 8-0 run with less than 10 minutes left in the game, with a PJ Savoy 3-pointer giving FSU a 61-50 lead.

The Hurricanes responded with a 9-3 run to cut the lead to just five with two minutes left to play. Chris Lykes scored late to put Miami within two points, but the Seminoles responded by crashing the offensive glass and getting a put-back. The Hurricanes had two opportunities to score on the next play, but they couldn't get a layup or put-back dunk to go down.

David Nichols led the way for the Seminoles with 13 points, followed by Savoy with 10.

Lykes led all scorers with 17, while Anthony Lawrence chipped in 14 and Ebuka Izundu with 13 for the Hurricanes.
