UCF is officially going to the Peach Bowl.
The Knights earned a No. 12 ranking in the final College Football Playoff rankings, claiming the highest spot ever awarded to a Group of 5 team.
UCF will face off with No. 7 Auburn (10-3), which fell out of semifinal contention with a 28-7 loss to No. 3 Georgia in the SEC title game.
The Knights went 12-0, earning a dramatic 62-55 double overtime victory against Memphis to clinch the American Athletic Conference championship Saturday.
The Peach Bowl will be played at 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Interim coach Troy Walters is leading the program, but the Knights could soon hire a new coach who may take over bowl duties. It's unclear whether Scott Frost, who took the Nebraska job, will return to assist with bowl preparation as originally suggested if a new coach is in place.
UCF posted the first undefeated regular season in school history and own the nation's longest win streak spanning 12 games.
Knights fans, along with some national analysts, have lamented UCF has not earned greater recognition for it success this season and were never in consideration for a spot in the College Football Playoff semifinals despite entering bowl season as the only remaining undefeated teams left in the country.
